This is completely normal, especially with shy, nervous, rescue, or naturally cautious cats. Experienced cat sitters understand feline behaviour & will never force interaction. Some cats prefer simply knowing someone calm & predictable is present, even if they choose not to come out immediately. Over time, many nervous cats gradually become more confident as they learn the sitter is associated with food, routine, & gentle interaction. Some owners are surprised to discover their “”antisocial”” cat eventually becomes very friendly with regular visits. Even if a cat hides, welfare checks still ensure food has been eaten, litter trays are being used normally, & the cat appears safe & healthy.
